High School Dual Enrollment Criteria

General Criteria

In order to be eligible in UL Lafayette’s High School Dual Enrollment program:

  1. Student must be a minimum of 15 years of age and currently enrolled in the eleventh (11th) or twelfth (12th) grade at a Louisiana high school or approved homeschool. High school seniors are eligible to be dual-enrolled and attend classes offered at UL Lafayette or at his/her high school. High school juniors are eligible to be dual enrolled and attend classes offered at his/her high school campus only. School officials can appeal for advanced tenth (10th) grade students.
  2. Student must have ACT/SAT, PREACT/PRESAT or ACCUPLACER NG scores and an official high school transcript on file at UL Lafayette;
  3. Student must be in good standing as defined by the high school and meet the college/university eligibility criteria;
  4. Student must have permission from the principal, headmaster, headmistress or designee of his/her high school and permission from his/her parent/guardian to participate;
  5. Student must complete the online Dual Enrollment Application and submit the Enrollment Request form prior to posted deadline;
  6. Student must be enrolled in a college course for which dual credit (i.e., both college and high school credit) is attempted and recorded on both the student’s secondary and postsecondary academic record; and
  7. Student may enroll in a maximum of nine (9) credit hours per semester at UL Lafayette. The student is responsible for all UL Lafayette enrollment costs unless these costs are covered by his/her school system. A dual-enrolled student is expected to follow the same withdrawal deadlines and fee policies as any other UL Lafayette undergraduate student.

In order to continue enrollment in subsequent semesters/terms through UL Lafayette’s High School Dual Enrollment program, students must have successfully completed (i.e., earned a college grade of A, B, C, or CR) current dual credit courses. Students who earn a D, F or NC are not eligible to continue in the program. UL Lafayette may grant limited, documented exceptions for continuation after withdrawal, but students will be limited to only three (3) credit hours. There are no exceptions to this rule.

These criteria are subject to change, as UL Lafayette deems appropriate.

Eligibility Criteria to Enroll in a College Level, Degree Credit Course:

In accordance with the following guidelines, each high school shall determine which students are
eligible for UL Lafayette’s High School Dual Enrollment program:

  1. 1. TOPS Curriculum: Students must be on track to complete the Louisiana Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (“TOPS”) curriculum.
  2. GPA: High school seniors must have a 2.50 cumulative, unweighted GPA. High school juniors must have a 2.75 cumulative, unweighted GPA.
  3. Minimum Scores for Enrollment in Courses Offered at High School*: Either high school juniors or high school seniors may enroll in courses offered on his/her high school campus. The following scores will also be accepted for high school students taking courses at his/her high school campus only:
    • ACT/PREACT English minimum sub-score of 18 (SAT/PRESAT 25WL) to enroll in Humanities and Social Sciences; and
    • ACT/PREACT Math minimum sub-score of 19 (SAT/PRESAT 500) to enroll in Math or Science.
    • Students with no ACT/PREACT or SAT/PRESAT may also take the Accuplacer NextGen Writing and Accuplacer NextGen Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics(QRAS) with UL Lafayette. Students meeting minimum scores will be allowed to enroll in introductory courses only.
    • In certain cases, where students do not have any of the above options, high school officials may provide recommendations based on additional materials and overall student performance. This is only available to a student enrolling in introductory courses offered at the high school.
  4. Minimum Scores for Seniors Enrolling in Courses Offered at UL Lafayette: High School seniors may enroll in courses offered at UL Lafayette beginning the summer after their junior year. Only ACT/SAT, PREACT/PRESAT, or Accuplacer NextGen scores will be accepted. High school seniors who are interested in dually enrolling in courses offered at UL Lafayette must attain:
    • ACT/PREACT English sub-score of 18 (SAT/PRESAT 25WL); and
    • ACT/PREACT Math sub-score of 19 (SAT/PRESAT 500); or
    • Accuplacer NexGen Writing score of 250 and Accuplacer NexGen QRAS score of 250.

Student Application process, Tuition, Expenses, and Other Requirements

Application: All new students (any student not enrolled Spring 2026) are required to complete the Online Dual Enrollment Application for 2026-2027 by the posted deadline. High school Dual Enrollment students are exempt from all application fees. Graduating Seniors are exempt from paying an application fee if he/she applies to UL Lafayette for his/her freshman year. All students in addition to the application must complete the 2026-2027 Enrollment Request Form.

Tuition: A discounted rate of Two Hundred Dollars and NO/100 ($200.00) per three (3) credit course will be charged for courses offered face to face at the high school campus if taught by credentialed high school teacher. Courses offered online/hybrid at the high school or courses that require a UL Lafayette instructor to travel to the high school are offered at a higher contracted rate.

Textbooks and Course Materials: Students are required to use the same textbooks, course materials, and supplies as UL Lafayette students. Students shall be responsible for the costs of textbooks, course materials, and supplies, unless covered by his/her school district.
